WHY CARDIAC SCREENING?
Today, we rely on as much information as we can to make decisions. While student athletes are required to have an annual physical, there is very little known about the condition of their heart. An electrocardiogram (ECG) provides a basic look at the electrical conduction of the heart and may uncover any potentially dangerous abnormalities that were previously unknown. While normal results are expected in apparently healthy students and sudden cardiac death is not always preventable, an ECG can provide the needed information to know if there is any risk to them.
WHO WE ARE...
Michigan Heart Check is a West Michigan based service whose primary goal is to spread awareness of the occurrence of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in student athletes through education and cardiac screening. We hope to not only spread awareness of SCA and cardiac abnormalities but also increase the prevention of these by early detection with the use of an ECG. Our service territory will include schools in the state of Michigan, while primarily focusing on schools that do not have screening services available to come to their school.
